The Hunger Games written by Suzanne Collins is a dystopian novel set in a post apocalyptic Earth. In the novel, North America has completely fallen apart from an Earth going through major changes such as sea levels rising dramatically, to brand new animal species that are vicious such as Tracker Jackers, and famine sweeping the nation. The result was the establishment of a new country known as Panem et Circenses meaning bread and circuses. In the country people would sacrifice personal freedoms we all take for granted in the US in exchange for food and entertainment even going extreme with some mandatory tv watching. Instead of states there would be 13 districts ruled by a prospering capitol. After district 13 was obliterated by the capitol for rebelling as punishment the capitol mandated the 12 remaining districts to send in 1 boy and 1 girl between 12 and 18 to compete in a reality tv show called The Hunger Games where contestants had to fight to the death.
It looks obvious to why this book was on the banned list because of its violent content but there is more. One of the issues is it has a government that forces children to kill each other and most sectors are going through starvation.
